"Guide to State Legislative Lobbying" is for those who want to win in their legislature. Over the years, I found that most lobbying is done with insufficient strategy and without realizing a group's full legislative potential. To remedy this I offer the "campaign approach" to lobbying. This consists of a series of planned aggressive steps to gain the law you want or stop the one you don't want. To the best of my knowledge no one has written as comprehensive book on how to run a state lobbying campaign. Winning in the legislature starts well before you talk to the first lawmaker. The Guide doesn't discuss what most people call "lobbying" until chapter 7. This is because the first 6 chapters of the book show you how to build the momentum that makes is harder for legislatures to say "no" and easier for them to say "yes" to you. If you wait until the start of the session to start your campaign, you have already lost your best chances of winning. In our seminars and in letters I hear from our readers. In one seminar a participant, who I had no idea had the book, started explaining to the class how the book showed him what his association had done wrong in a recent legislative battle. Now they know how to do it better. An experienced lobbyist, after reading the book, said she wished she had read the book before taking her first step years ago as a lobbyist. In this book, Guyer presents a boots on the ground approach to lobbying state legislatures. This book is light on theory, but packed with practical advice written for lobbyists and organizations interested in gaining a foothold in politics. The range that this book covers is hard to overstate. Most questions that a reader could have about the function of and strategies employed by lobbyists will be touched upon. However, Guyer's text does have some limitations. Guyer's experience in the field is unquestionable, however the text would benefit greatly by contextualizing these lessons with some historical or political evidence. In addition, the book does have a fair share of editing issues. Most of them are minor, but some actually prevent the reader from understanding the purpose of a sentence.

I admit I haven't read it yet. :) But it looks nice on the book shelf. Will get to it.

UX mappingDid the author unconsciously and completely ignored his users ( readers of the book) ?The book still need two rounds or revisions. Missing basic design principles( four different fonts sometimes in one paragraph) black and white printing for all images/figures and maps despite being the topic of the book ( UX mapping) !!!images are printed at best 72dpi makes it impossible to read in many cases, I challenge anyone to read details of figure in p53 as an example of many other pages that suffered from the same.None of the figures were even numbered and while author provided a link to download these in colors how would one reorganize these in place without any reference? If this was published in electronic format I reckon one would at least get these figures legible.First chapter spent seeding the metaphor cat feeding and go through pages and pages to to teach drawing maps using MS Words !!Literally two paragraphs summary p35 could replace the previous 34 pages.Furthermore another 20 pages on using illustrator and, another 10 for Smplay then a whole chapter 5 for balsamic etc. I mean these are just tools anyone can pickup and get hold of them so this shift from discussing what is supposed to be an important topic of UX into tutorial style writing that one can find in abundance online; this, just very disappointing for me as a reader who was expecting lot more from someone who claim to be an expert on the topic.I will not go through the gaps of each chapter ( what is and what ought to be) but starting from basic authorship, organization, structure, ideas flow, development, and conclusions .. lots need to be revised. Jumping in tone, first person, reflection, past situations, cases, personal comments just too dizzy to follow.Yes lots of UX deployment has intimate space with agile but the ways presented did not do good for both.I teach UX as partial component for my students in a particular course that address design and authoring for different systems, within three lectures range, I present more than what you hope to get from this book, which I hoped would help me plan for a complete course on the topic.I hope the author will take these notes on board, I wouldn’t say editing or 2nd version improvements, but rather a rewrite all together.

Well written book on all map types, and more. Originally I wanted a book on journey mapping and user story mapping. This book contains a very detailed explanation both of those and more. The examples are from real projects, and often narrated in an enjoyable and funny way. What I did not expect from a UX book is to have fun. It's the "Don't make me think!" of Mapping. The only drawback is the relative shortness of the Kaizen-UX chapter. It's a complex management framework, and a few pages are simply not enough to fully understand it. (To be fair, the chapter focuses on the mapping aspect of it, but a full book or at least a book with 50+ pages on Kaizen-UX would be nice.) Overall, it's the best book on User Experience Mapping.

I'm a full stack developer, and often need to create wireframes, user journey maps. As a certified SCRUM master, I had a bit of experience with User Stories. This book refreshed what I knew, and added many new details, and make me understand all those better. This is why I bought it. Now it went way beyond. I haven't even heard of behavioural change UX, or many other cutting edge stuff from the book.

This book teached me many small details about UX Mapping. So a big thank you to the author! I just simply love it.

I could tell you what this book is about, but it is exactly what it says it is in the summary. Anything else would be to risk my posting spoilers to this very basic story. It is very much a "what you see is what you get" plot line. Excluding the somewhat icky female main character, this was a decent book. The writing was fine and I appreciated that there was no overt sexual or violent content. The story flowed well without it so I added another star to my review in gratitude.Here's the one negative. I found myself wanting to spend a lot more time with the extended family rather than stuck in the cabin with Rose. I found her to be needy, jealous and judgmental of everyone else that so fully and completely welcomed her into their world. Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you share the naming of a baby? "What are you going to name her?" I dunno...she really, really needed to grow up. One would think that this would improve as the story progressed, at least I had hoped it would. But as I read the epilogue I found that yes, she was by far the least developed character in the story . Just as a side note, I agreed with Penny when it came to Rose. There was nothing harsh about it. It was VERY reasonable and Rose proved that herself. (This will only make sense after reading the book).I recommend this book as a stepping stone to the series, but only if Rose falls away into the background of this most warm and interesting extended family unit.

I love the author, Lacy Williams, and have really enjoyed this series. I have read every book following Davy White's unusual family and they have all been fantastic...until this one. I tried very hard to like this one but in the end just could not even finish it. I did enjoy the parts involving Davy and his family. The problem with this book was the female character, Rose. She is the most dependent, insecure, whiny, needy, jealous, and frankly pathetic female I have read about as a lead character in a long time. What is worse is that she never seems to get better no matter how devoted Davy is. It would have been bearable if I could have seen some growth in her as time went on but I am almost 3/4 through the book and there is no change. I have put the book down several times because I just could not stomach getting through another page and came back to it hoping I would feel differently, to no avail. Finally, I gave up. I can understand people having issues, but for me this went way beyond the extreme. Davy, on the other hand, took patience to a whole new level. One I have never seen in the best of men. Very disappointed. I believe there is yet one more book in this series, about Ricky. I really hope that Ms. Williams goes back to the style of the other books in the series for that book. I have loved the series up until this book and want to like the rest of it. Ms. Williams is a great author overall.

Found another new author I like! Though some credit this book as being for Christmas, it isn't necessarily so. Christmas is mentioned and referred to and does culminate at the end, but the concept, the thought that went into this book is so refreshing! It is NOT gushy, mushy or sexually challenging (which I like). It IS heartwarming, honest, and thought provoking (which I like better!)Kudos for Lacy Williams! Looking forward to reading more from her!

It was a very good read. The characters were very lifelike and the story very good, and upbeat.

Loved this next installment in this wonderful series.This one is a tiny bit different but still so very good that I couldn't put it down.A fabulous book.

LOVE this story, especially the great audio/audible performance of it. Sweet and gentle story.

Thomas Engel has taught chemistry for more than 20 years at the University of Washington, where he is currently Professor of Chemistry and Associate Chair for the Undergraduate Program. Professor Engel received his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry from the Johns Hopkins University, and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Chicago. He then spent 11 years as a researcher in Germany and Switzerland, in which time he received the Dr. rer. nat. habil. degree from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In 1980, he left the IBM research laboratory in Zurich to become a faculty member at the University of Washington. Professor Engel's research interests are in the area of surface chemistry, and he has published more than 80 articles and book chapters in this field. He has received the Surface Chemistry or Colloids Award from the American Chemical Society and a Senior Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which has allowed him to establish collaborations with researchers in Germany. He is currently working together with European manufacturers of catalytic converters to improve their performance for diesel engines. Philip Reid has taught chemistry at the University of Washington since he joined the chemistry faculty in 1995. Professor Reid received his bachelor's degree from the University of Puget Sound in 1986, and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992. He performed postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, campus before moving to Washington. Professor Reid's research interests are in the areas of atmosphere chemistry, condensed-phase reaction dynamics, and nonlinear optical materials. He has published more than 70 articles in these fields. This textbook is hard to follow and does not provide you with enough information to complete all of the problems they give you. Some of the answers to the problems in the back of the book also contain errors, which is extremely annoying. Honestly, no one in my physical chemistry class uses it; we just study our class notes, and our professor does a wonderful job at clearly and thoroughly explaining all of the concepts. If you are a student, please do not waste your money on this "textbook." If you really, really need it for a class, then, I would recommend getting a way cheaper version of it.

The book explains concepts in very obtuse ways. I had to rely on other sources to understand most material in the later chapters. On the other hand, it is very annoying that some key concepts are explained solely within the contexts of overly-simplified example problems.For those with strong calculus backgrounds, the logic of this book shouldn't be too difficult to follow. For others, not so much.

Poorly written, obtuse, and at times flat out unhelpful. I learned more by googling topics than by wasting my time struggling to decipher this text.

If you're thinking, "This has got to be great - it's written by a member of the Emily Post family". Well, maybe think again. I agree with the other commenter... completely. It's not what you'd probably expect. Because it sure wasn't what I'd expected. No offense, but I think I'll give this book to one of my friends who likes books AND parties, but doesn't need a lot of help planning parties. It's a book that will look good on display somewhere in their house. I'd keep it, but I didn't find it to be particularly helpful. I cater and plan parties for a living. So, for someone like me (who practically lives, sleeps, eats, and drinks parties) this book just didn't have enough "juice".

This book is not very good. It doesn't have any particularly exciting or new ideas. It is very small and, though I did not expect a thorough wedding planning bible (for that, consult Mindy Weiss' The Wedding Book), I did expect unique, clever ideas. It really did not deliver even that. It was trying to be a lot of things at once. I bought it expecting it to be a specialized book on wedding party ideas but instead found the same old ideas you can pick up in a larger wedding planning book or even in a magazine. It's not horrible, it's just not particularly helpful.
