From the Back Cover
What If World War II Never Happened…The Nazis never invaded their neighbors. Instead, they made a promise to unite the nations through the construction of dams that would drain the Mediterranean Sea. A promise of new land, endless resources, and world peace. It was to be called Atlantropa. By offering endless energy through hydroelectricity and employing millions to build the dams, fascism cements itself as a mainstream ideology. Hitler is never seen as a genocidal killer. Instead, he goes down in history as a revolutionary leader like Lincoln, Caesar, and Queen Victoria. But the plan fails. Centuries into this new future, the world is dying. Those hopes of a fertile, lush land were never realized. Instead, the sea left behind a salty, barren world. This is where Captain Ansel’s story begins. A story of discovery, lies, and false prophets. The Atlantropa Articles is an astounding science fiction, alternate-history tale that will thrill and transport readers into a dystopian future with its detailed world and startling intimacy.

This story is so completely original and unpredictable. The writing style is unique, the concept is truly next level, and the execution is, in my opinion, flawless. The use of a first person perspective for this particular protagonist fully draws you into the mindset of a person living in this alternate world, and Ansel’s journey - both physical and internal - is one that you feel you’re experiencing with him. The world building is accomplished beautifully, and the history of the Kiln, the Eternal Reich, and the Scavenger Lands is so rich and alive. I couldn’t recommend this book more. Absolutely stunning.
I'm a huge fan of Cody's YouTube channel AlternateHistoryHub so when I heard he wrote an alternate history novel I pre-ordered it, just like many others I'm sure. So I think there might be some bias among these reviews so keep that in mind. The overall story is great and it pulled me in, I pretty much read the whole book in one sitting. The writing is good however the character development could be better, and unfortunately some of the plot is super cliche.Another thing is there are quite a few editing mistakes. It happens and I'm willing to let the small stuff slide but at one point it becomes apparent that multiple lines must have been taken out and the subsequent text wasnt changed to account for this.Edit: found another editing error that literally gives away the nature of a certain object before its discovered by the characters... Pretty bad oversight there.Edit2: knocked a star off... There is an entire page missing from the paperback version. It just skips ahead in the plot... Maybe this isn't present in the Kindle version but really? Gramatical errors are one thing but an entire page just missing?!Edit 3: Publisher's acknowledged their mistake and are sending me a corrected copy, any new buyers I'm sure will receive a good one, I updated my rating.Overall it's an entertaining look Into an interesting alternate history and I think for a first novel Cody did a great job, however there are definitely areas of improvement. If you like alternate history buy the book!
I don’t know if this says anything, I got the book yesterday and I’m already half way through. It’s not like other alternate history books about the Nazis winning. I’d read a trilogy of this if I could
Alright, let me get the bad out of the way real quick: this book needs another editorial draft. There were several grammatical and formatting mistakes, especially in theearly pages (<-like that, for example), that caused me a few hitches now and again. Also, the lack of "tabbing" of the paragraphs feels different compared to countless other novels, and not necessarily in a good way. Please keep that in mind when I say that I picked up this book as soon as it arrived and couldn't put it down again until I'd read it cover to cover. The fact that this book is based off of a little-known historical tale is fascinating in and of itself. Yes, the Atlantropa Aritcles were a real thing, cooked up by a crazy architect exactly as described in this book, and the idea was so ludicrous that even Hitler and Co thought he was nuts.Cody, though, takes this idea and absolutely RUNS with it: all throughout the book are little fascinating tidbits, glimpses and pieces of a world beyond the snapshot we see that leave me salivating for more. What of the lands to the south? What of across the Atlantic? What about Asia? These and many more questions flashed through my mind like gunshots with just the briefest mention from the book as seemingly throw-away lines from the protagonist send my mind in all kinds of crazy and fascinating directions. But that's not to say that the story and characters themselves aren't fantastic. Far from it: all the named characters are absolutely brilliantly portrayed, with the main character Ansel being a fascinating "anti-hero" who at once always wants to do the right thing by absolutely doing the *wrongest* things. Even the lesser named characters are memorable due to their vivid descriptions and characterizations. All serving to help draw me into this insane world and help me believe that such madness could ever actually exist.I want more of this world. Whether it's from the same character's perspective or someone different, I want to learn more about this world and its people. To see how things are different and - depressingly - how they are the same. This book is an amazing start, and I eagerly look forward to more if it comes!
I am a fan of the authors YouTube channel. So keep that in mind . I can say that this was a good first time authors book.It a good story and I enjoyed it for what it was and that is an expansion on what he has been doing for his channel as well as a full story from a first person view of the world. If he keeps going I can see him getting better and better.
Short but fun read. I do wonder if the author will do a follow up or run with a different topic for his next book.Others have written up comprehensive reviews and I won't repeat them. If you want a nice way to kill an afternoon or two, go for the book. If you want Ender's Game: Hitler Edition, probably not the best choice but I don't think that exists yet.
Its an interesting and original idea that I thoroughly enjoyed!
I really wanted to like this novel. I love Cody's channel and the premise seemed original and intriguing. What Cody makes up for as a researcher and historian, he lacks as a fiction writer. His prose is choppy and awkward, and he slips out of perspective and POV in the middle of a scene Pacing is also a problem. Scenes tend to drag on too long or are over too fast. There is also way too much cursing; Cursing every other word might work okay I'm film and television, but on the page it quickly become monotonous. It was difficult to get through the first chapter. This novel is a solid first draft of what could be a pulpy, fun alternate history novel. But as it stands now, it's not worth reading.
