I don't remember how but I found this book when I was a child. I read it then, mesmerized by Nin's colorful imagery and vague stories. What I missed at the time, due to my age, was the earthy and outright sexuality in this book. I missed the kinkiness (Nin can be quite kinky) because I did not understand those references. We were a family of readers and my parents did not examine my reading choices so I was never censored, Hallelujah! By the time I was in my teens, I was "getting" it. As an adult, I "get" it even more. & with no apologies, I have to say that I love this book. I love all the stories; I love the way it holds my attention after all this time; I love its twisted, lusty characters, and I love the way it makes me feel. I love Anais Nin and would have loved to have met her. She enriches my life.

Who doesn't love Anais Nin, lover of Henry Miller, and an excellent writer on her own.? These little stories illustrate Nin's inventive mind for sexual fantasy stories, delicate and usually with a twist.

This was my first Anais Nin read. I really enjoyed it, as it fit perfectly in with my love of short stories (and short chapters for that matter) - Anais has a beautiful style of writing that I can connect with. Although the story itself, Little Birds, set me on edge, many of the other stories intrigued me. This small, easy read has a little something for everyone.

The title story is a little bizzare, and I am sure in these hyper-phobic times, many are put-off by it. However, the remainder of the stories in this collection are quite enjoyable and well-written. They have a memoir quality about them, even though only a few are written in first person. None could be called pornographic, although all are erotic. This is one of those books in which the words unspoken speak louder than the words spoken. A sensitive and sympathetic reading of these stories reveals insights into the mysteries of women and their sexuality.

This was one of the first erotic works in English by a serious and talented writer. It is also one the earliest erotic collections by a woman, at least in the English language. The stories are clever, entertaining and sexy. They are based on her adventurous experiences and on those of her unusual friends, exploring a wide range of cultures, people and sexual habits.

I had to read this book because of all the hype I heard about it.It's a collection of short stories that, for its time, really had people talking.But after all the new books and new authors, it was a book that didn'tgive me anything new.But I think it's an important part of literary history.

Following the successful release of "Delta of Venus" in the 70's, it looks like the editors decided to cash in and release a collection of the "also-rans" that were not used in the first book.

A classic. AnaÃ¯n Nin is how this high level of erotica and romance stands the test of time. Fantastic.
