I pre-ordered this book and was not disappointed. If you are into the art and lore of Magic: The Gathering this is a must have. The book has weight with solid binding and when gently opened there was no cracking sounds like a cheap coffee table book. This is a high-quality production book. If you are like me and had to strain your eyes to appreciate the artwork, this book is a godsend as many of the illustrations are enlarged to fully appreciate the details by your favorite artists. For those who have been following the lore of Innistrad, this book further adds details you won't get from Wizards site thanks to James Wyatt's contribution to the details (for example:"Nahiri has played on their discontent and given them new masters to serve."). I really think Wyatt's deep background from the early days of D&D was invaluable for the book. In fact, the book reads like a classic D&D Dragon Magazine article which further expounds on the general lore.Back to the artwork, there are many two-page spreads of cards from SOI and even Eldritch Moon! Perhaps they timed the release intentionally! I read some reviews that the previous artbook for BFZ block had low resolution but that's nonsense after seeing the prints in this book. The details are amazing. The appendix is really fantastic as it delves into how and why Innistrad mechanics are so special. Unfortunately, upon initial look, it doesn't include Eldirtch Moon's mechanics like Meld but it's still a fascinating look into how Wizards R&D operates. All in all, this is one of my favorite M:TG item of all time aside from the cards themselves. There is so much flavor and information about the Innistrad plane. I hope Wizards will continue this tradition with Kaledesh and beyond to satisfy the hard-core lore lovers like myself!Plus: I love the fresh smell of the book, it has a very much a "new car" smell.

This book is awesome! Don't be fooled by the name which is a bit of a misnomer. While this book does have full pages, 3/4 pages and half pages of artwork it also contains ALL of the plot of both the Innistrad and Shadows Over Innistrad blocks. It includes everything from the basic background of the plane to character bios and the story from the creation of vampirism on Innistrad to the creation of Avacyn all the way through the end of the Eldritch Moon storyline. This book is an awesome buy for anyone who loves Magic or is just an avid fantasy/gothic horror fan. You don't have to know the game to get into it, in fact it is solely story based. It is an awesome buy with the quality that exceeds the price tag.

How about we talk about the currently latest in the The Art of Magic: The Gathering.. RavnicaAs with all the other's in this series of looks into the multiverse of M:TG, Ravinca is an excellent book of art put together from across the main two sets of the current story arc in the card game. As with the rest of the books the artwork is the best feature as well as the accompanying world building lore that you get only the briefest scraps of in the cards themselves. The most of the chapters focus on each of the ten Guilds of the Cityscape plane of Ravinica. After the usual M:TG explanations of the colors of Magic, Planeswalkers etc come the brief overview chapter of the world of Ravnica at large. The the meat of the book begins with each of the Guild focused chapters. The Azorius Senate. the Blue/White Lawmakers of the Plane. The Orzhov Syndicate, a White/Black "church" front led by the greedy spirits of the long dead preying on the living followersHouse Dmir, The Black/Blue spymasters guild. spies, informants, assassins and others that the other guilds hire to get the dirt on each other, all the while keeping enough for themselves to make their own power plays. The Izzet League, a group of Blue/Red research magicians and artificers making what they can because "FOR SCIENCE!" led by an ancient dragon. The Cult of Rakdos, Black/Red demon worshiping sadists who praise their master by offering up the most entertaining show they can.The Golgari Swarm, Black/Green denizens of the deep city, sewers, and decayed areas. Life and Death are the cycle they believe in.The Gruul Clans, Wild groups of Green/Red savage tribes who detest the city and destroy all vestments of civilization they come across. The Boros Legion, White/Red Army and righteous law enforcement of the Plane. Led by Angels into glorius battle against the forces that would threaten the peace of the plane. The Selesnya Conclave, Green/White the ones at peace with Nature who wish to return the city to a more beautiful natural state led by a trio of dryads who interpret the voice of the World Tree. And then the Simic Combine the Green/Blue biomancer opposites of the Izzet league. Willing to experiment on themselves with combining each other with other lifeforms to improve themselves. The next chapter then go into some of the backstory of the underlying plot the game at large has told with the chapter "Claws of the Mastermind". Diving into the plot and machinations of Nicol Bolas as they come together on Ravnica leading into the next "War of the Sparks" set.Lastly we end at a short look at how each of the Guilds have changed over the last 14 years in the three major visits to Ravnica we have seen. And that's kind of the issue I have with the Artbooks on returning worlds. It makes sense for the books to primarily focus on the newer sets to promote them, but for worlds like Dominaria and Ravnica with so much previous to draw from it would be great alone to draw more from the older sets as well to see how much things have changed. But overall the book is another great look at the art and lore of the current world the game is set in now.

While the book was written by MM Romance author, she wrote it as Urban Fantasy. And a very good one, actually. The world building is nice – the book is set in sort of post-magic-apocalypse world; after Human and Elfin world merged for some reason. The event is not explained, because the inhabitants of the world have no knowledge of it themselves. But the surrounding world is shown to the reader in reach satisfying way. I also liked the use of post-war status quo atmosphere. The best thing about the book is its main character. Kai is adorable. He is so tough, strong-minded and hilariously snarky; almost every thought that went through his mind made me lough till tears in my eyes. Despite being and outcast, and oddity, despite all the darkness in his past - he is such a darling, sweet, kind soul. It’s no surprise he is so loved and cared about.I like Ryder too; he is perfect love interest for Kai: arrogant, righteous, clueless, but he is also means well and really adores Kai. He has a lot to learn, before he wind kai’s heart. I just hope it’s not going to turn into love-triangle.The book has large supporting cast, perfectly written and well developed. I would like specially mention Kai’s cat – a little ugly purring feline monster.I read both books Kai Gracen books in one breath and I can’t wait to read more.

I really liked this book. On the face of it, it sounds like a fairly standard Urban Fantasy book: a cataclysmic event has happened on earth, magic is real, magical creatures and monsters exists, our hero is marginalized in society and a skilled monster hunter. But it took less than one chapter for me to realize this was anything BUT your average Urban Fantasy series. The characters are complex, interesting and the relationships are layered and leave you wanting more. The plot was quite good, and the world building was exceptional. It leapt off the page.I slowed down my reading to really enjoy what was happening and I was sorry when the book ended but happy there was another in the series.

Hilarious, snarky, sexy, and completely thrilling series.Kai Gracen is a licensed Stalker in a new world that has emerged after the sidhe and human realms combined in a catastrophic amalgamation. The elfin world brought its monsters with it, and elfin Kai, raised by a gruff human Stalker, makes a living as a monster exterminator, guide through dragon country, and whatever runs keep his bank account full enough to load his cabinets with rice, whiskey, and cat food for his furry roommate.Kai has a life, career, and chosen family in the human world, but there's no escaping his elfin heritage when Ryder, the new Sidhe Lord of the Southern Rise, requests his assistance to escort a pregnant human woman from Elfhaine back to San Diego--meaning a run through dragon country. During mating season, no less.Kai isn't thrilled, but literally can't turn down the assignment. Whether he likes it or not, Ryder has made him a liaison between the human world and the elfin court. And something in Kai's blood sings when Ryder is near, something the cynical Stalker can't allow himself to feel. Kai's brutal past rears its ugly head once he's drawn back into the vicious intrigue of the Sidhe Courts, and he puts his life on the line to save innocents from the same evil he once escaped.

Welp, I finally got around to reading this and it just goes to show how stupid my brain sometimes is. I mean, I knew I would end up loving this. Come on, I've loved all of Rhys's books! I had gotten it into my stupid head that because it is not a romance that I would like it less.I loved this!Yes, it is an urban fantasy and not a romance. But, according to me, Rhys Ford can write no wrong. Kai is an AMAZING character and may just be giving Cole McGinnis a run for his money as my favorite of Rhys's MC's. I liked Ryder too but not nearly as much as I did Kai. And of course there are the excellent secondary characters I got to enjoy. And the story! The plot! There was excitement and mayhem and shenanigans galore! I couldn't ask for a better story! I was on the edge of my seat throughout. The world building was top notch. I really liked that there was no info dump in the beginning, but that the details were sprinkled throughout the story. That way, along with the wonderfully descriptive words, I was pulled into the story and got to actually experience it for myself instead of just being told how this world works.Really, what the heck is wrong with me that I put this off for so long?I highly highly recommend this to UF lovers, M/M lovers, PNR lovers, just everyone.READ IT

The main guy created by Rhys Ford is hilarious (a sense of dry humor helps). His rants about his various circumstances and encounters with others are slick. Amusingly, one waits for the next off cuff remark that goes beyond bold. Here we have a book held together by the most unpleasant, people, pleasing person. Guess what? This character has charmed us by his disenchantment.Yeah, the imaginative story line added to this fantasy tale of elves, non elves, humans, monsters, dragons...oh my. Frankly, I wouldn't classify this as young adult. It has sufficient depth, development and life experiences appealing to adults. Really, though, I did like the plot and subplots in this novel. The sexual fluidity of the protagonist did not bother me. In fact, I found it rather refreshing to not see just in black or white terms(gay or straight). The author kept my attention with ease.My only complaint is that in some scenes things were happening so fast it became a bit confusing for me. There seemed too much going on at once. Perhaps, a little cleaning up would help. Also, proper editing in some places would give a smoother read. Hey, the story was good and the main character absolutely amazing that I still consider the whole greater than its parts. BTW the other characters were splendid but I needed to emphasize who really holds this piece together. Anyhow, I would definitely recommend this book without reservation as an enjoyable , light read. Believe me, it's worth experiencing this anti- hero.
