I must have purchased this book about 15 years ago. It is very entertaining and my kids adored it. It has a character that speaks in somewhat hep vernacular.
I purchased the original The Dragon Takes a Wife from the Weekly Reader series when my older children were in school, (they are 42 & 44 now). This book was special to ALL of my seven children. I was SHOCKED to find out when I wanted to purchase it for my grandchildren that publishing had been stopped due to ratial conotation! I have lived in the south and found no such thing. My children delighted in the book. I was delighted when the new version came out and I snapped up 20 copies and have given them to family & friends. Sadly that edition too is not available unless you pay extrodinary amounts on Amazon. Its a GREAT read for kids of all ages.Bgmama
Such an entertaining fantasy book. Every time I share this story, both children and adults really enjoy the humor of the dragon's struggle for courage. This Walter Dean Myers treasure should stay in print! Recently I found a slightly used copy from a third party vendor through Amazon. It's a birthday gift for my five-year old grandson.
I read this book as a young child and was enthralled. Harry's dreams of finding a mate and searching for answers drew me to the library week after week. To this day, I still believe in fairies, medieval fantasies, and miracles.
