I bought this book on faith because I enjoyed Dino's book on ASP .NET MVC back when I was developing on that framework. After reading through the first few chapters it is obvious that Dino has only gotten better at effectively describing the finer details of a framework. It is well written and I am enjoying the greater use of diagrams in this book. Nothing but love from me for you, your team, and your book.IMO this book is for: Developers that are assessing or using ASP .NET Core 2.0.

I've come back to edit this review after completing the book. This is a very good book and covers a lot of material on ASP.NET Core. I generally like Esposito's writing (this is the 3rd or 4th of his books I've read) and I enjoyed the first 3 chapters quite a lot. However, their are two difficulties that make this book very difficult to read.1. sentence construction and specific details are often confusing. At times you will find yourself asking..."did he mean this or that?"2. Bad use of flow / transitions - Esposito tends to jump around when talking about a topic. Makes it very difficult to determine what he really means. As a matter of fact, if you keep reading you'll see that he covers the same topics again later in the book and he is supposedly going to provide more depth, but the additional coverage is very confusing.3. Very little context. He doesn't connect everything together. Instead he talks about a topic as if it exists independently of the entire ASP.NET Core system and it is very difficult to understand how the pieces fit together.4. Lack of content - For example he is going to cover databinding but there is nothing of substance there. And I'm beginning to think databinding is just an architectural dream that causes more problems than it really solves anyways. Also the section titled The Angular Way To Building Web Apps is less than 1 page long and is a completely ridiculous summary of Angular. Rip that page out of the book. It was like he was thinking of an intro to some things he was going to write about angular and then left out the actual content.5. A lot of content that is totally unrelated to ASP.NET Core - he does some View stuff that isn't really related to Core instead it is general web dev stuff. doesn't make sense, isn't covered in enough depth and should've just been left out. Feels very much like content filler.6. Covers topics before you are ready for them. He goes through cross-cutting concerns and blathers on about a bunch of details that make no sense because you haven't seen the basic web functionality of Core yet anyways.I can see he was trying to tell the story of asp.net core but he just seems to go astray often. There are very good sections in there where he is focused and explaining details but he never quite brings off the whole thing as one idea and one development architecture. It's worth the read for the coverage of the material, just wish it would've been a bit more cohesive.I'm going to try out Pro ASP.NET Core MVC 2 (Pro ASP.NET Core MVC 2 by Adam Freeman) and hopefully it will be better.
